Bean Hill Campsite is lovely! It’s in a great position on the top of a hill with a beautiful view of rural Gloucestershire. Really clean and quiet; aside from the odd tractor rumbling past – which for me created character. The campsite is perfect for young families as the grounds are enclosed. There are picnic tables dotted around for visitors use and I am sure we spotted a built in BBQ at the bottom of the hill.

They encourage recycling, save water and there is a relaxed vibe. The owners are lovely and they have an incredibly chilled out attitude towards (good) dogs on the site. Around the perimeter there is a small wooded area, which is great for a quick wee in the morning (for the dogs, right!).

Lovely, small and quiet site, close enough to the main road that you didn't have to negotiate too many country lanes just to get to and from your tent but far enough away not to have traffic noise. The owners were very welcoming but didn't chat unless approached. Facilities are new, well thought out and clean - amongst the best I've used. Everyone is asked to pitch around the edge so that the middle is clear for frisbee, football etc. Most of the field is gently sloping but the site was not full and we found somewhere flat enough.

Very reasonable price as it's not in the very heart of the Forest of Dean, but it's really very near to everything so it didn't feel far out at all. Don't miss the nearby 'puzzlewood' ('awesome' said my 8 and 10 year olds, who didn't want to go for a boring walk) or the excellent outdoor swimming pool (unheated) run by volunteers just south of Lydney.

I booked this campsite the day before we were due to go after reading previous reviews. This was our first camping trip post children so we wanted somewhere within an hour from home for a 1 night trial. We were not disappointed. On arrival I was a bit apprehensive as the field looked rather sloping but once we had done a 'reckie' of the site, we were able to find a nice flat area to pitch the tent (on far side to the left by the BBQ pit). Pitches are not marked and as the site was quite quiet we had a large area to ourselves. The centre of the field is left for the children to play. The toilet and shower block were immaculate and inspected regularly. We had a lovely walk around the lake and along the stream and even witnessed a fish being caught which the children loved.

We stayed here for the weekend with our two young children and thoroughly enjoyed this site. The owners are really friendly and helpful and let us choose from the available pitches. All of the touring pitches are spacious - easily enough room for our van, awning and car. In fact I would even say we had tons of space - so nice after visiting sites where the owners are much more focused on 'packing them in' than offering a relaxed and comfortable experience.

The site is laid out so that there is a large open area in the middle for the kids to play where you can see them - great! The surrounding area is very picturesque and it was nice to eat our meals and chill out whilst surrounded by such lovely countryside.

Showers and toilets were spotless and we did not need to queue at any point over the weekend.

My parents stayed at the Bed and Breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it there. It is very warm and welcoming and the cooked breakfast was freshly prepared to order.

All in all, this site is a peaceful, family friendly and has everything we needed. One more thing to note was that we had a meal in The Cross in nearby Alvington. We were pleasantly surprised at the standard of the food and service - they had a kid's menu which was organic with not a chip in sight!
