Stocking up with Rainbow trout

March 7th 2011
Ruralists Stuart Taylor and Andrew Champion (a regular fishing expert at the Beanhill trout lake) attended The Inaugural Mork Clay Shoot Perpetual Trophy to launch The Ruralist Phil Vickery MBE on his 14 month journey to explore British Field Sports. Andrew is going to provide Phil with some coaching in the very near future once the lake has finished its extensive make over.
Andrew Champion a renowned Fly Fisherman was presented with a bottle of wine in recognition of his achievements for the day - Most improved Gun. Stuart Taylor managed a converted Wooden Spoon which now holds pride of place at the campsite, do make a point of asking to see it as I am sure it will make his day.

Beanhill is selected as THE campsite to stay at in the Royal Forest of Dean by Ben Fogle.
Wildlife presenter, writer, and adventurer Ben Fogle’s one-man mission to get British families to re-engage with nature, has culminated in his hosting, a bespoke wildlife experience at Beanhill campsite in the Royal Forest of Dean curtsey of the Taylor family.
The keen environmentalist is working with the Eden TV channel to encourage as many people as possible to be inspired and educated about British wildlife.
As part of the campaign, Eden, gave five families a chance to be at an exclusive, money cannot buy weekend experience called Base Camp Eden.
Together with the inspirational wildlife stories from Harry Atkinson from Liverpool, Sue Foster from Northamptonshire, and Philippa Bleach from Hampshire, they were invited to spend the weekend in the heart of the Forest of Dean with Ben Fogle and a team of qualified naturalists and experts.
Stuart Taylor who runs the family Campsite said, "We were really excited to have such a famous wildlife presenter staying on site. It was quite an affair with splendid tents, catering vans and TV crews roaming around. Ben was a really friendly person and the children loved having their photos taken with him.
We were really proud to have been selected by the Eden TV channel to be THE location in the forest. We take for granted living here in this beautiful area and I think they spotted its calming beauty and splendour, I know they enjoyed their Gloucestershire experience. I hope he comes back to see what other delights the Forest has to offer."

If you go down to the woods today you'll be in for a surprise...
Bob Griffiths (a Sculptural Landscape Artist) is busy carving animals and all manner of creatures out of the Beanhill trees, the first due to be completed this weekend is a trout jumping with the scenic setting of the Lake in the back ground. Bob, passionate about his carving has embarked to carve all the trees in the lower meadow which in time will create a meandering nature trail.
The second creature a Barn Owl should also be finished by the end of the bank holiday weekend.
Stuart Taylor said, "we wanted to create a trail around the campsite, the lake and the surrounding woodlands that fitted in with the natural setting of Beanhill. Bob came up with ideas and suggestions for animals that you might see here as well as some surprises (you'll have to come back next year to find out what) and we hope that all of our visitors will walk around and find out what he has created."
